Calories in Foods
how can you count the calories in foods? the easiest way is just to read the label! that sounds pretty easy, right? wrong. its not always that easy.
first of all because things like fruit vegetables and meat dont have handy labels. but even if we are talking about checking the calories in foods which have label, dont you feel sometimes that you need a computer to calculate all the numbers that are on the label???
the important thing is the context of all the numbers. the calories in foods (and other nutrients) are based of a standard serving portion. obviously if you eat more than the the serving mentioned in the label – youll eat more calories! so pay attention to the serving size on the top of the label and the amount of calories for that serving size.
Understanding calories in foods is not very difficult. the label does try to be as simple as possible (with all sort of nice colors too!). take a few moments to learn how to read it. if you want to know more about reading the calories in foods and all the other details, you can check the US FDA site about the nutrition facts label.
